The harbour of Vannes in the heart of the city

Sheltered in the back of the Gulf, about 25 km away from the Atlantic Ocean, Vannes is not what may be called an open sea harbour. Yet, its harbour is one of the most active among South Brittany's coastline. Every day, numerous yachtsmen from any nationalities come and sail on the Gulf.

Sheltered from the swell and the stormy weather, the harbour of Vannes offers a first-class shelter and a considerable advantage: it is situated in the heart of the city, a few metres away from the city centre. That is an ideal situation for the yachtsmen who can thus easily mingle sea and urban tourism.

Access to the harbour

The access to the harbour of Vannes is determined by the crossing of a swing bridge at the entrance of the channel and a tide gate to the wet dock. Two waiting pontoons have been fitted, one downstream and the other upstream of the bridge to facilitate the waiting during the opening hours. After your arrival and the crossing of the bridge, you are greeted by the harbour's small motorboats and placed according to the vacancies and to your needs.

By day:The lock gate is opened 2h30 before the open sea until 2h after the open sea (when the harbour is open, read the tide table).

When the tide gate lights are out: the harbour is open.
When the lights are green: the crossing is allowed.
When the firelight is red: the crossing is forbidden.

By night:The crossing is forbidden as the tide gate is closed.
The swing bridge downstream the tide gate: out of season: opened every hour.
in the summer and the week-ends: opened every half-hour.
