Vannes, a privileged crossroads

annes, which is the prefecture and the county town of Morbihan,
is one hour away from Rennes, Nantes, Quimper, Saint Brieuc, four
hours away from Paris through the motorway, three hours by the high-speed-train,
one hour by plane; it is also one hour away from Nantes’s
international airport through the expressway and 30 minutes away
from Lorient’s airport. Vannes is a privileged crossroads
in South Brittany and benefits from its closeness with the Gulf
of Morbihan, which is the main tourist asset of the region.
Vannes benefits from the exceptional hours of sunshine and the
climactic mildness of the Gulf of Morbihan (the hours of mildness
reach 2,000 hours per year).
The
Gulf, which is a real inland sea where there are, according to the
legend, as many isles as days in a year, belongs to the "Club
of the most beautiful world bays". Its changing and unusual
landscapes have made of it a magic and attractive place.
Being the former residence of the Breton Dukes, Vannes, which is
the Gulf of Morbihan port, is situated at the centre of two peninsulas:
the Rhuys peninsula (the Crouesty port) and the Quiberon peninsula
(Carnac, La Trinité sur Mer, Auray and Sainte-Anne d’Auray). |
